NO BATTERIES

The Elgin National Watch Company, established in 1864 along National Street by the Fox River, was the largest manufacturer of watches in its time. At its peak, the company employed 4,500 individuals, with over half of the workforce being women. Remarkably, the Elgin National Watch Company determined time based on astronomical observation. What is particularly fascinating is that it was only off by one-tenth of a second, providing accurate time to the rest of the world.

Elgin History Museum

In recognition of the rich history of the Elgin Museum, I have chosen to donate a battery-free watch to commemorate the legacy of the watch factory in Elgin.
